This is the million-dollar question for those you are looking to get into photography as a hobby or even a career.
For the sake of this article, we’re going to talk more about photography as a hobby. Let me just start of my saying that I consider a camera to be expensive when you get into the $500 or more category, and yes I realize that is cheap compared to some cameras out there.
The straight forward answer to your question is no, you don’t need all the high dollar equipment/camera/software to make good photos. This is in thanks to how far our technology has come in our phones, yes I said it, our phones. Let me explain what I mean below.
Can A iPhone Or Phone Camera Take Professional Quality Photos
Here is an image I took just walking by when at the park on my phone, while it’s not a perfect photo it shows that quality has come a long way with cameras on phones these days. If you asked me that question 5 years ago I would have said heck no but today, yes it is totally possible.
The main downside of phone cameras is the lack of depth that they can zoom in to.
By that I mean, taking photos with your phone can be great as long as the item is not too far off in distance, this makes this like taking pictures of animals and certain nature photos to become more difficult to take or not as good as they could be with a better camera. So what do you do here?
Phone Camera Attachments, What Are They & What Do They Do?
One of the newest gadgets to hit the market has been camera attachments to our phones.
They do a variety of things like allow you to zoom in further, have a wide view and many other cool features that normally would only be possible on an actual camera.
As they’re relatively new to the scene there isn’t a huge variety to choose from but, one of the newest brand called, Moment Lens has made a big impact in such a short timeframe after their Kickstarter success.
The Hardware Is Only Half Of The Battle
Something most new photographers don’t realize is that taking the actual picture will only make the picture so good.
Tons of professional photographers pretty up their photos with some sort of software editing program, which was usually just as expensive as buying a camera.
Well, we now have a lot of affordable and even free options to be able to do this these days.
My favorite software for this is an app called Snapseed, which is insanely simple to use and it comes with lots of preset options if you don’t want to get to in depth with the editing.
Some Skill Required
Having all the best software, equipment and setup will of course make a huge difference but that doesn’t mean just any joe blow can get this stuff and become an expert photographer (myself included).
I’ve learned in the short time that I’ve been trying my hand at taking good photos that it takes a lot of patience and a little bit of an artistic look at things. This could mean you take different photos of the same item but at different distances, angles and certain lightning.
The little things are what seem to take a photo from a good photo to an amazing one, and yes having a little bit of luck plays a part in it to, especially if you’re more into the nature side of things. Save
