Although I’ve seen many signature fragrances in that color, there’s something about this cologne that makes it look really different, bold and mysterious.
The curiosity got the best out of me and I decided to try wearing the scent. From the moment I smelled the cologne, I knew that I liked it. What makes this fragrance a good one? I’ll be sharing my personal thoughts about it.

Released in 2015, John Varvatos Dark Rebel Eau de Toilette Spray is relatively new compared to other signature fragrances from the same brand and form other well-known brands.
Created by John Varvatos himself in collaboration with a renowned perfumer Rodrigo Flores Roux, the cologne is marketed as a type of scent that is unique and different among the rest, the kind of scent that will bring the other side of you.
It has a combination of woodsy and smoky scent that is mysterious and highly provocative, bold but not too overbearing.
Top notes used in this cologne include cardamom absolute, Jamaican rum, davana, clary sages and Cuban sugar cane. The very heart of the Dark Rebel makes use of black pepper, nutmeg, storax absolute, fir balsam and black leather.
Composition: The first scent that came out from the bottle is very striking with its woodsy scent and I personally like this kind of scent.
When I initially tried the cologne, I just knew I liked but I didn’t know why. It was only when I started wearing the scent a few times did I notice that it has this very mysterious appeal, the kind of fragrance that reminds you of something bold, powerful and cannot be grasped and yet, you know the strong presence is there.
Compared to other signature fragrances I have tried, so far I consider this as one of the most provocative scents and if my partner likes it, I bet a lot of women would love it too.
Best Use: The Dark Rebel has a really aromatic woody and strong scent that will surely draw a lot of attention. In my opinion, it is a scent that is perfect for nighttime and for special occasions like when you are going on a date or you are attending a business meeting. But that is just me, if you are really into this kind of scent, you may also find yourself wearing it everyday simply because you like how good it is.
Longevity: There are different opinion and feedback about other fragrances from John Varvatos that are not so long-lasting albeit smelling really good.
The good news is that the John Varvatos Dark Rebel does not belong in that category. Its longevity is fantastic. It is really long lasting.
Even if let’s say you have a really long and tiring day, at night the scent is still there. It holds really well on the skin not to mention that the Dark Rebel gives you a bigger cologne size.
There are just so many things to like about this cologne. Whats not to like about it? Unfortunately, I couldn’t find any unless of course you have a different preference and you want a scent that is not strong or has a much lighter blend. But even then, there is just something about this cologne that draws it to you once you smell it.
The aromatic fragrance that blends woodsy and smoky notes of various ingredients makes it a masculine and bold, giving a little bit of mystery and excitement.
